Exotic Shorthair Appearance

The Exotic Shorthair is a medium size, compact cat with a sweet facial expression. They are essentially a shorthaired version of the Persian (They have the flat faces of the Persian Cat with a short plush teddy-bear look). The Exotic must meet the Persian standard with regard to nose, eye, ear, chin, and build. The body is compact with a deep chest, muscular shoulders and a powerful neck. The head is round and well proportioned with a distinctive flat face. The eyes are large, round and prominent. The eye colors are copper, dark orange, green or blue, depending on the coat color. The ears are small and rounded at the tip. The tail is relatively short and has a slightly rounded tip. The weight of the Exotic Shorthair is around 7-14 pounds.

The Exotic Shorthair coat is soft and dense with crisp feel. The breed comes in all same colors recognized for the Persian longhair. The most common colors are: white, black, blue, red, cream, chocolate and lilac. The Exotic Shorthair may be seen also in a variety of tabby patterns including the mackerel.

The Exotic Shorthair is gentle, affectionate and playful. They have a soft squeaky voice that rarely uses. They are sweet-tempered pets who enjoy sitting on laps and the refined comforts of home. The Exotic Shorthair is quiet and makes a good companion pet for all ages.

Is Exotic Shorthair the Right Breed for You?

Exotic Shorthairs doesn’t require much exercise and is well suited to apartment living. They usually get alone well with other cats, dogs and household pets. They are very good with children and are extremely adaptable to any circumstances. The Exotic Shorthair are known to show more affection and loyalty than other feline breeds, and commonly follow their owners throughout the home but when things get to excited he goes to find the quiets spot in the house.

Exotic Shorthair Health Problems

The Exotic Shorthair is a relatively healthy breed. There major concerns associated with them are asymmetrical jaw which can affect the cat’s ability to bite, eat properly, and can also lead to dental problems. They could be also prone to PKD (Feline polycystic kidney disease), Sinus problems, tear duct problems and Keratosis Sequestrium.

Exotic Shorthair Care and Grooming

Unlike the high-maintenance Persian the Exotic Shorthair doesn’t need too much grooming. They can keep up themselves with a little human attention. A weekly brushing and combing is recommended to remove loose hair and reduce shedding. Do not use a metal comb on your cat, this can damage his undercoat. When your Exotic is shedding heavily you could use a rubber brush to help remove the loose hair. Bathing is optional.

The Exotic Shorthair cats should not be bathed more often than once every six weeks to keep their skin from drying out. It is recommended for all cats and household pets to have annual vaccinations, veterinary checkups, and a quality diet. Use a special ear cleaner to keep the ear clean and trim off the sharp points of the claws regularly using good clippers.

Exotic Shorthair Shedding

The Exotic Shorthair are average shedder; you’ll find hair stuck to your couch, carpets, clothes and everything else in your home, therefore is not best suited for those with allergies.
